Vision: We protect our democracy for future generations.
Our democracy requires vigilant protection. The rise of misinformation, right wing extremism, and powerful corporate interests have made it more important than ever to ensure we are building a just, thriving, and resilient democracy. Minnesota has a strong and proud history of high civic engagement and we have become a leader in building a multi-generational, multi-racial democracy. I’ve been fully invested in promoting our democracy for the last decade by participating in voter registration efforts, joining Get Out The Vote (GOTV) shifts, and supporting DFL candidates at the city, county, and State level through door-knocking and phone banking.
We must:
- Expand our use of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV). RCV has been a powerful tool for local elections by making our process more equitable and inclusive. I’ve worked to expand RCV because it helps to reduce extreme candidates. and encourages positive rather than negative campaigning.
- Limit the influence of money in politics. Democracy should be the playing field of ideas not money. We should make political contributions transparent and expand the public political contribution refund program to local elections.
- Protect Minnesota from potential future gerrymandering and free up the courts. In at least the last four instances of drawing decennial redistricting, the courts ultimately stepped in to do the job because the legislature was unable to develop fair maps. Let’s learn from the successes in other States, and create a nonpartisan citizens' panel for political redistricting.
- Defend and promote one person, one vote. The will of the people should determine the result of presidential elections. That is why I support Minnesota’s participation in the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact
- Make our democracy more accessible. If elected, I will join the Inclusive Democracy Caucus and work to expand our democracy while championing efforts to protect it from threats.
- Expand our electorate. As part of this election, my campaign will dedicate efforts to door-knock in neighborhoods with historically lower voter turnout. Democracy works best when everyone participates.
