Hello, my name is Katie Jones.
I'm running to serve district 61a in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
I am an engineer, local community builder, and climate advocate. Through my years of experience, I have had the honor of working with Rep. Frank Hornstein on the landmark climate and transportation policies that have made our state a national leader and model for the Midwest. I’m running to continue that work because there is still so much to be done.
I’ve lived in the district for over a decade and have heard neighbors’ concerns. Climate change, racial and gender justice, community safety, strong public schools, housing, struggling business nodes, just to name a few, are issues in need of real solutions.
There are few legislators with science backgrounds in our State House of Representatives. Having a diversity of knowledge and expertise is important to tackling our toughest challenges successfully. As an engineer, I bring methods and evidence-based approaches to every day problem solving and policy making. As a community leader rooted in this district, I want to fix what’s not working by listening and co-creating lasting solutions. I bring a wealth of leadership experience at the neighborhood, city, county and state levels. I know that successful representation means engaging with community, responsive governance, and delivering results.
Importantly, we cannot succeed if we don't stand up for human dignity and protect our basic human rights. This work is rooted in justice, fairness, and collaboration to solve our toughest problems. Together, we can build a sustainable future where everyone thrives.

What's good for Minneapolis is good for MinnesotaOur city is facing tough challenges that need durable state solutions. As representative of district 61A, I will champion our city at the state level so we meet long term economic goals that grow our tax base and stabilize property taxes while adding vibrancy to Downtown and Uptown. This will help strengthen our public school financing, support Minneapolis' ability to invest in community safety, and help keep housing within reach at all income levels.
