Background: Katie grew up in a rural town in Indiana, the daughter of small business owners. She came to Minnesota for the first time as a kid attending language camp at Bemidji’s Concordia Language Villages, which is where she met her husband, Peter. They currently live in the Wedge neighborhood in an eco-friendly house they built using novel insulation techniques.
Age: 36
Education: Engineering degree (biology and agriculture) from Purdue University
Current work: Senior Manager of Community Policy at a clean energy non profit

Katie is a proven leader, community builder and climate champion.
Katie is running to build a more just, resilient, and thriving Minnesota.
Katie knows that vision is within reach, but only if we tackle the hard structural problems like climate change, racial and gender injustice, insufficient affordable housing, inadequate transportation, and struggling business districts.
As an engineer, Katie tackles tough challenges every day.
As a community leader, Katie wants to build on the good work that has been done and fix what’s not working for our district by listening and co-creating lasting solutions.
Katie works with everyone, no matter their viewpoint, to understand every angle of a problem and find creative solutions without leaving anyone behind.
She’s lived in the district for over ten years, and in that time has served the community at every level:
Locally, she served on the Lowry Hill East Neighborhood Association, making composting available to renters through partnership with the Wedge Co-op, getting more renter representation on the board, and developing the first strategic plan.
Current member of the City of Minneapolis Capital Long-Range Improvement Committee, where she has been elected to leadership positions and led decision making for how to allocate resources for requests to improve infrastructure in our city (for example: roads, parks, fire stations).
Has helped pass climate-friendly ordinances in seven cities, from Minneapolis to Eden Prairie and Northfield
At the county level, Katie contributed to the launch of the efficient buildings collaborative
Worked with Met Council to draft their first ever climate action plan.
Served on the Governor’s Sustainable Transportation committee, providing guidance on how to reduce carbon pollution.
She is an experienced climate and energy policy expert. She directly contributed to the DFL Trifecta’s transportation bill last year by writing and helping pass portions of legislation, in addition to supporting updates to building codes that reduce emissions.
Katie is the standout candidate with strong community connections, practical experience, and proven results. This makes her ready to get to work on day one.
